It’s a great relief to find out that you have no cavities when you come in for a six month examination. The more you know about the causes, symptoms, and prevention of cavities, the fewer of them you’re likely to have, and the less havoc they are likely to wreak. At Piskorski Dental, we will help you to stay cavity-free, today and in the future.
When discussing the causes of cavities, you have to begin with sugar. From early childhood, two things are true at the same time: we love sweet foods and drinks, and those same items are the ones that are not good for our teeth. Keep sugar limited, and this includes starch, too (bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc.). Sugar leads to the formation of plaque, a filmy bacteria that appears on your teeth and at the gum line. It is what causes dental decay, and subsequently cavities. As for the symptoms of cavities, they often don’t have any, at least when they are small. That’s why you should visit our Ord dentist office two times per year for a complete oral examination and periodic x-rays. Early detection of cavities is essential. If you do have symptoms, the most common one is a toothache. Sensitivity may also be present. If so, then don’t wait. The sooner that you come in to our Ord dentist office, the better the chances are of a good outcome. In addition to watching the sugar in your diet, prevention is found in brushing and flossing, as well as in a twice-yearly teeth cleaning right here.
Keep in mind that a cavity may eventually grow large enough for an infection to take hold inside your tooth, and thereby requiring root canal. You could even lose the tooth. Why take such chances? Reach out to our Ord dentist office to schedule your next visit.
